Richard Lockett – Ficus elastica (Part I & II)
GSL Projekt presents Ficus elastica, a two-part solo exhibition by Richard Lockett.
The exhibitions are bound together by a series of new paintings made at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf whilst on a student exchange program and an accompanying series of objects and site-specific works.
Works deal with themes of the domestic, gender, memory and trace bought succinctly into play through his delicate but playful brush- marks, strokes and gestures. His canvases reveal a care and delicacy reminiscent of a homely interior, whilst the accompanying objects mundanely compliment this sense of familiarity with originality and flair; Lockett’s temporal reconstructions of his subjective experiences invite the viewer into an intimate architectural space navigated and activated by the objects he selects and puts into place.
