A duo exhibition with Eemil Karila and Alana Lake
The richly visual material in both Alana Lake’s and Eemil Karila’s work draws from a collage of art historical and allegorical references. The symbolism is familiar to minds trained on fairy tales and visual culture but it also escapes outside the familiar register, into something deeply unsettling.
Karila and Lake met in 2007 on an exchange program between the Royal Academy Schools and the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki. They have previously exhibited together in group shows in both London and Helsinki. This is their first duo show and Lake’s first exhibition in Berlin.
