In keeping with GSL Projekts’ interest in exploring the links between psychoanalysis and the arts, That That Lies Beneath reflects upon an old psychiatric term, ‘Reticence’.

Reticence is used to describe ways in which topics may be avoided or kept silent by a patient. Yet, if you move beyond this reticence a deep and complex ‘other’ reality hides. The artists that have been selected for inclusion in this exhibition have a surface tension in their work, which broadly provokes questions about what lays beneath the surface.
